Horace Wells was publicly known as an American dentist who was the first to use nitrous oxide or commonly recognised as a laughing gas in laymen's term, in his work.
He started to use it in December 1844 after seeing the demonstration of such gas and its effect as a painkiller by Gardner Coulton. Unfortunately, when he first tried to demonstrate it for extracting tooth for the medical school students in Massachussets General Hospital in Boston in January 1845. However, he eventually succeeded when he did the second time in Boston in October 1846.
